What is an essential oil?
Essential oils are volatile, aromatic compounds extracted from plants — typically via steam distillation, cold pressing (citrus peel) or CO₂ extraction. A single drop can contain hundreds of chemical components such as monoterpenes, esters, aldehydes and phenols.
The composition determines aroma, effect and safety profile. The same plant can have different chemotypes with widely different properties.
What is a carrier oil?
Carrier oils are fatty plant oils such as jojoba, sweet almond, argan and avocado. They dilute potent essential oils so they can be used safely on skin.
Each carrier oil has its own shelf life, comedogenicity, fatty acid profile and skin properties — important factors for both cosmetics and massage.
